Local Recommendations

January and February in South Alabama means one thing and one thing only for most: Mardi Gras! Mystic organizations prepare all year for this fun-filled holiday by making floats, collecting throws, and raising money for local businesses! People from all over gather on the streets of Downtown Mobile, home of the first Mardi Gras, and the party doesn't stop until it ends!

Mardi Gras (or Carnival) celebrates the traditional Christian Season of Epiphany ending on Fat Tuesday (also known as Shrove Tuesday). Fat Tuesday is the last day of the festivities leading into Lent, which starts the next day, Ash Wednesday.

The traditional Mardi Gras slogan "Laissez les bons temps rouler," or "Let the good times roll" describes the carefree, fun atmosphere one would expect during this season of parades and formal balls. We strongly recommend that anyone seeking a good time make their way over to Mobile this Mardi Gras season and experience the biggest party in the South. If you cannot make it to Mobile, there are some local parades here in Baldwin County ranging from Daphne to Orange Beach. Remember to be safe, always have a designated driver, and have the time of your life!
